Verbal Bridges 1/3
I LOVE verbal bridges (AKA 'anticipation hooks'). They make public speaking easier and so much more fun.
I'll share my 30 favorite bridges over 3 posts. Please keep this list to yourself :).
Attention bridges:
1. This is really important to understand...
2. Okay now stay with me here...
3. Most people can't understand this concept...
4. Do you know about...?
5. You've probably never heard of this before...
6. Let me get this straight...
7. I want to share something...
8. Let me tell you a secret...
9. The number one question people ask me is...
10. End/conclusion: If there's one thing I want you to remember from today, it's...
Note the 3 dots after each sentence. We must always drop a silence after each bridge. The silence gives you time to breathe and think, AND it creates anticipation in the audience (good tension).
Knowledge of a concept like this is step 1. But it really only becomes useful with step 2: practice. Find a safe environment (like our Confident Speaker Course), so you can master these tools when you need them most.
With love
